FAQs: Let's Talk Moss
About Preserved Moss
What is preserved moss?
Preserved moss is moss that's harvested from forest floors and undergoes a special cleaning and preservation process using glycerin to retain its colour and soft texture. Food colouring is also added to get a variety of colours to design moss walls with. This process keeps the moss colourful and maintenance-free, lasting for 8-10+ years.
Preserved moss is not to be confused with dried moss, which is dehydrated. Dried moss is harder to the touch, brown in colour, and eventually disintegrates.
Is the moss used by Miss Moss sustainably harvested?
We care for our planet and its natural habitats. The preserved moss we source is sustainably harvested and our supplier is certified with both ISO 9001 for Quality Management System standards and ISO 14001 for Environmental Management System standards.
What types of moss do you use at for your original moss art?
Miss Moss art pieces tend to contain a lot of preserved reindeer moss. Other mosses
we've played with are pole and mood moss, which have a rounded structure that
can fit in the palm of your hand, flat forest moss, which as the name indicates, lays almost completely flat against the earth, and Spanish moss, a string-like moss that looks and feels more dry to the touch.
How long will my original Miss Moss art last?
Preserved moss can last for over 8-10 years if it is cared for properly by remaining out
of direct sunlight, not being watered, and untouched so that the moss or other
artwork doesn't fall off.
Should any moss or decorations dislodge from the piece, you can re-attach it by using a glue gun. Please follow the glue gun's instructions for safety and care
measures.
Miss Moss art prints are printed on museum-grade, 100% cotton Photo Rag paper from
Hahnemühle and can last for more than hundred a years.
Original Moss Art Care
Does my original Miss Moss art require watering?
One of the mossy perks of preserved moss is that it does not require any watering!
Hanging the artwork in a moderate humidity environment will allow the moss to remain soft. If it starts to harden, that's a great indicator that your space may be a bit dry.
Note: If you water your Miss Moss art, this will result in the colours bleeding and can not only damage your art piece, but it can leak over to the walls as well.
How do I care for my original Miss Moss art?
Every six months or so, you can dust the your original artwork by blowing cold air from a hairdryer on a low setting. No other care is needed!
What should I do if a piece of moss or decoration dislodges by accident?
Oh moss! Should any moss or decorations dislodge from the piece, you can re-attach it by using a glue gun and holding it in place until the glue cools. Please follow the glue gun's instructions for safety and care measures.
Alternatively, strong crafting glue can be used. Follow the glue's instructions for drying times.
Where can I hang my Miss Moss original art or fine art prints?
Original Miss Moss pieces must be hung indoors and away from direct sunlight so as not to lose damage the colours or make them fade faster.
Just as nature is always evolving, your original Miss Moss art will have some natural fading over the years.
Miss Moss art prints are printed on museum-grade, 100% cotton Photo Rag paper from Hahnemühle and should not be hung in direct sunlight, as even the highest quality archival paper can fade or discolour from UV rays.
What do I do when I'm done with my Miss Moss original art or fine art prints?
